Keep Cottage is a beautiful holiday cottage, tucked away giving extra privacy and a magnificent escape, on the edge of Orford. The cottage has a short driveway directly from the road for off street parking for one car. You can access Keep Cottage via the side of the property where the traditional timber door leads into a light and spacious lobby area. Here you can hang your coats, store your walking boots and shoes (or flipflops in summer). Keep Cottage will happily accommodate up to six people and is just as cosy for two. The house is two cottages knocked into one, so its twice the size but still cosy and intimate which has a great artistic style with its range of mid century furniture, interesting artwork and masses of comfort.

Keep Cottage was originally built around 1550.  There are uneven floors, wonky walls and beautiful beams throughout the house which restrict the  height in some places.

The stairs are wooden and quite steep so may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility – we now have handrails for both stairways which makes life easier.

Kitchen & Dining

The galley kitchen has everything you need for your stay. So if you want to keep it to breakfast or taking time out to cook or bake we have it covered. We have a Bertazzoni Dual Fuel range cooker, with grill, five burners and 2 ovens, a double butler sink,  dishwasher, fridge, freezer, microwave, VERY sharp knives for any expert chefs, washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board (should you get the urge). The kitchen is lovely and bright having the benefit of double aspect windows, handmade kitchen units and Suffolk brick flooring. Crockery, glassware and cutlery are provided for 8 people. There are also various cooking implements, pans and cookware and of course a corkscrew and tin opener.

The kitchen leads onto the dining room, where the style is contemporary with Scion blinds and antique Kimono light shades. There is comfortable seating for 6 people, you will also find two comfy Danish leather chairs by the wood burning stove, so listen to something on the Bose music system, or plug in your ipod and away you go.

Garden Room

A lovely room to sit and watch the local wildlife. This room does seem to be a real winner for our guests, it has a beautiful combination of being quiet and the outside in on slightly chillier days. Its a great space to read a book, have a glass of wine or where you can simply reflect on the peace and quiet.

Spacious Sitting Room

Also running off from the dining room is a spacious sitting room, where you will find a flat screen internet TV, DVD player, and a home theatre system (great guest feedback is the system is better than they have at home). This is a peaceful, comfortable space to relax after your adventures, where you can enjoy your evenings by watching the TV, play a movie or listen to some music. There is a wide selection of films and music to enjoy whatever your tastes.

Light the wood burning stove for an extra romantic feeling. Here you will find two vintage Danish sofas and a Mulberry chair and stool which will give you a chair hug. Sitting on the Suffolk brick floor is a Persian rug to give a lovely a homely feel.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

A wooden stairway leads up to the family bathroom, where there is a roll top slipper bath with hand shower mixer taps, with a handy shelf for your glass of wine and candles  -if you cant spoil yourself on holiday when can you  – leading directly to one of two the king size bedrooms, which has a huge vaulted ceiling. the room has a good feeling of spaciousness. Due to the querky nature of the Keep Cottage, there isn’t a door leading into this room, although it does offer privacy due to the hallway – take a peek at the floor plan.

Next to this room is the smallest of the three bedrooms, which houses a single bed that converts to a double, or two singles  if required. This is a lovely bright room with views over the gardens towards the Ness and features a beautiful exposed brick wall and exposed timbers. It also has hanging space, for clothes.

Beautiful crisp white bed linen with extra large lovely fluffy towels are provided for that extra bit of luxury. Getting a great night’s sleep

Painted stairs lead from the sitting room up to the third bedroom which is  separate from the other bedrooms. It is another large room containing a king size bed with a partially vaulted ceiling and plenty of original charm and features. Please note that this room is not really suitable for small children due to the nature of the stairs and the open railings at the top.

Behind the sitting room is a ground floor fully tiled wet room with a rainfall shower, sink and WC with underfloor heating, and a small office with desk and chair, should you need to do any work during your stay.

In the Garden

We have a large and private garden, where you will find a beautiful and tranquil space, with lawned and stone areas. There is a herb bed in one of the gardens as well as an asparagus bed which has an abundant crop, so help yourself to whatever is growing at the time of your visit. The aspect of the garden behind the house is a secluded private area where you can take a seat, enjoy a glass of wine and nothing will disturb you other than the local wildlife. There is a charcoal BBQ and a table and chairs for outdoor dining for 8 people.
