How to build the perfect log fire for a wood burning stove

Its a question we are often asked do you have a log fire? Indeed we do..

Whether you are staying at Keep Cottage or the Wood Store we have log burning stoves to create a cosy atmosphere.

Having a real fire is all part of the holiday cottage experience, so follow these simple instructions and watch the flames flicker into life.

On your first night the log fires will be made up and ready to go.. Here are 8 steps to help you create a fire too.

  1. No need to push the ash away
  2. Start off with lots of scrunched up newspaper 3 or 4 sheets should be enough – you will find a good supply by the fires
  3. Place the scrunched paper at the bottom of fire
  4. On top of this put a few layers of kindling (these are the small sticks) stack them to build a cube along the top
  5. Then put on a few of the smaller pieces of wood on top – you are creating a layering effect for your fire
  6. Open the airway vents to encourage the fire to take hold
  7. Then light the bottom paper and watch the flames go
  8. Once its burning well close the door – hey presto you have the perfect log fire.

Pour yourself a glass of wine and enjoy the moment…
